James Adler: Make Music New York


For those in the New York area, PARMA and Yamaha Artist James Adler will be performing at the Make Music New York Festival today at 2:30PM. The set is located on Cornelia Street which will be closed to traffic all day for performances.

Adler will perform three works from his new release on Ravello Records, including Paul Turok’s “Tango,” Seth Bedford’s “Christopher Street Rag” and Adler’s Piano Fantasy on “The Ballad of Sweeney Todd.” Adler will also be involved in a massive performance of Jed Distler's new work for 175 keyboards (between 12-2PM).

PARMA Student Composer Competition: Judges Meet, Review Scores

This past weekend, judges Alan Beeler, Tim Davis and Sergio Cervetti convened at the PARMA office to select finalists for the 2013 PARMA Student Composer Competition. Ten winners were chosen from hundreds of entrants and will have their work featured in this year's PARMA Anthology of Music. One grand prize winner will have their work programmed on the PARMA Music Festival, later this august. Winners will be announced June 28th so be sure to check back.

Tower Music


The Eiffel Tower has long been known for its striking visuals. For his new composition, "Tower Music," American composer Joseph Bertolozzi has drawn attention to Eiffel's percussive qualities.

How does one turn this iconic monument into a musical instrument? The New York Times has reported on the process in a recent article and accompanying video shown below:



Pianist Sean Chen Confirmed Finalist of Van Cliburn Competition

On Tuesday (6/4) Sean Chen performed as a semi-finalist of the Van Cliburn piano competition. We at PARMA are proud to report that Mr. Chen has moved on to the final round to perform Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 in Eb Major tomorrow (6/7) night starting at 7:30 PM.
The competition can be live streamed here. The final round begins tonight with Beatrice Rana, Nikita Mndoyants, and Fei-Fei Dong.

Sean Chen is the featured soloist on an upcoming Navona Records release by Michael Glenn Williams.

Nicholas Vines' "Rustling the Dieties" Reviewed

On May 31st PARMA composer Nicholas Vines' work "Rustling the Dieties" was performed at the Tenri Cultural Institute in New York. The piece was programmed as part of the new music ensemble Counter)induction's final concert of the season.

Pianist Sean Chen Reaches Semifinals of Van Cliburn Competition



This past weekend, pianist Sean Chen performed his solo recital at the semifinal round of the Van Cliburn piano competition. Still to come is his chamber program, which will be performed this Tuesday (6/4). Listeners can tune-in to the live webcast via the competition website:

Mr. Chen is a world-class pianist and the featured soloist on an upcoming Navona Records release, a program of solo piano works by composer Michael Glenn Williams. The album will include the recording premieres of Mr. Williams' "For the Young Artist" "Ringtones" and "Tone Poems vol 2."
